Dr. Wilson’s background includes more than a decade of teaching high school mathematics with another two decades of teaching mathematics and mathematics education courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Professor Wilson earned his PhD in Mathematics Education in 2002 at SUNY Buffalo with his dissertation titled Young Children’s Composition of Shape: A Learning Trajectory, which stemmed from work on the NSF funded project: Building Blocks—Foundations for Mathematical Thinking, Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 2. In addition, he is a Regional Director (with Dr. David Henry) of the New York State Master Teacher Program, Western Region (msmt.buffalostate.edu), and in that capacity supports STEM teachers in a variety of professional development activities.
Miss Kim is a special education teacher who has been teaching 4th grade at Union East Elementary School for the past 8 years. She enjoys teaching all subject areas and is excited for the opportunity to be a part of this math camp! In her free time she enjoys playing sports, running, and spending time with her family and friends.
Miss Jen is the math curriculum leader and has been teaching third and fourth grade at Union East Elementary. She is also a current member of the New York State Master Teacher Program where she has the opportunity to collaborate with educators from across New York State to share teaching strategies. She believes in a hands-on approach to teaching math and supporting students understand of mathematical concepts through the use of manipulatives and pictorial representations.
Miss Jamie has been a fifth grade math teacher for the past 10 years and loves teaching and getting students excited about math. She helps students become more confident as mathematicians and gain skills to help them be more successful throughout the school year. When she is not teaching she enjoys spending time with my two boxers, Jada and Jax, and traveling and gardening.
Miss Melissa is a special education teacher who has been teaching 6th grade at Cleveland Hill Middle School for the past 13 years. She enjoys teaching all subject areas, but math and science are her favorites. In her free time she enjoys running, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
